Miscellaneous Information
Eric was born at Spruce Grove, Edmonton, Alberta on 22 July 1920. His father worked as a farmer and carpenter and was born at St. John’s, Newfoundland, as was his mother. His mother was shown on his enlistment papers as deceased. He went to Sand Hill School 1927 through until 1936. He had brothers Harold and Arthur. The sports he joined in were baseball, hockey, basketball and softball and his hobby was letter writing. Eric worked for his father, farming 1936-1940, was at a lumber camp for five months in 1941 and also a carpenter for another three months. After that he then enlisted on 22 August 1941. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from New York on 22 November 1942, arriving at 3PRC on 1 December 1942. He then continued to 14 (P) AFU. 23 March 1943, 30 OTU 11 May 1943, 1651 CU 23 July 1943 and 218 Squadron on 18 August 1943. Sadly Eric was then to lose his life on 9 October 1943. |
